Konana-Prabhudev-08Oct20-079 NewsletterDecember Highlights with Dean Prabhudev Konana

"As the semester draws to a close, I’m delighted to say -- We Did It! The return to in-person instruction went seamlessly, thanks to the dedication of our faculty and staff. Students once again had all kinds of events and extra-curricular activities. Van Munching Hall and Mayer Mall are buzzing with excitement and activities -- music to our ears!  I’m so thankful for all the faculty and staff for their commitment to providing the best possible experience for our students.

We promised a great deal at the beginning of the year, and we accomplished a great deal!" Read the Dean's Letter.
Invest in the Smith School to continue to provide exceptional experiences for our students.

Smith Proud Moments

Former Dean Rudy Lamone proudly celebrated the announcement of the new Paul J. Cinquegrana Endowed Chair in Finance at Van Munching Hall. Dean Lamone was instrumental in assisting the late Betty and Paul Cinquegrana to consider the Smith School for their investment that supports a number of strategic priorities for the school.

Smith welcomed 285 Smith alumni, industry executives, and friends in Van Munching Hall, and virtually, for the first Advisory Council meeting on October 15th. Council members discussed their roles and goals followed by networking with students.

On November 15, Smith hosted the inaugural Government Executive Speaker Series event featuring The Honorable Ryan D. McCarthy, EMBA ’13 and 24th Secretary of the U.S. Army. McCarthy shared leadership lessons from both his public and private sector experience.

Bill Boyle SpotlightBill Boyle ‘81: Understanding - and Supporting - Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurs can face a multitude of challenges as they take their ideas from concept to startup, and Bill Boyle ’81 understands them all.

Boyle co-founded and operated FiberGate Inc., a Washington, D.C., area provider of dark fiber services. He exited the company in 2012, after 17 years at the helm. These days, he serves as donor and chairman of the advisory board at Maryland Smith’s Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship.

Thanks to a generous gift from Boyle, Dingman recently launched the pilot of the Terp Startup Fellows, the latest addition to the center’s venture programming portfolio, supporting entrepreneurs of all kinds across the university. Read Bill's full story.
