Sunday 8:40 AM - 9:30 AM ADVANCES IN WILDFIRE LITIGATION TECHNOLOGY FOR EXPERTS AND ATTORNEYS This presentation will cover a brief discussion and demonstration of recent
developments in technology that have streamlined document management and the
use of exhibits in depositions for wildfire cases. From relatively small to
very large, complex litigation, these new tools have proven to promote
collaboration among attorneys, and to improve efficiency in managing and
utilizing evidence in all areas of each case. SPEAKERS: Sue Muncey of Berger Kahn ALC Alexander Hafez of Everlaw Jeffrey P. Koller of Veritext Sunday 9:40 AM - 10:30 AM MODERN TRENDS IN INCIDENT COMMAND OPERATIONS Technology has changed since the great fire of 1916. Social media and technology control the responses to major events. Learn the new science and approaches behind incident command operations and how communities respond to wildfires. Aging infrastructure (water systems) and roadways (evacuation routes) need improvement. This topic has taken on greater importance not only for the safety of citizens, but for responsibilities for spread.
SPEAKERS: David Bona of Carlson, Calladine & Peterson, LLP Sunday 10:40 AM - 11:30 AM EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES FOR DETECTING, MAPPING AND FORECASTING THE SPREAD OF WILDFIRES Several recently-launched satellites provide end users with the ability to monitor the spread of fires in near real time. This presentation will explain how, combined with infrared imaging from fixed wing aircraft and networks of fire cameras, these new developments provide unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution for mapping fire progression. Enhanced situational awareness provided by this remote sensing data also facilitates automated real-time fire forecasting. To this end, the presenter will provide real-world examples of how fire modeling and high resolution weather forecast are being used to predict how fires will move from a known position several days in the future.
SPEAKERS: Chris Lautenberger of Reax Engineering Sunday 11:40 AM - 12:30 PM WILDFIRE EVIDENCE PRESERVATION & CATALOGING - CHALLENGES AND PITFALLS The proper documentation, collection and preservation of evidence is critical in any loss investigation but becomes even more important in a catastrophic loss such as large wildfire. Large wildfire investigations can generate hundreds if not thousands of potential exhibits. This presentation will explain the importance of protocol establishment to insure compliance with best evidence preservation practices including ASTM E1188, NFPA 921 and NFPA 1033. The presenters will discuss case studies involving large losses and the challenges surrounding the share volume of evidence both from a first party and liability perspective.
SPEAKERS: Mike Driscoll of Envista Forensics
