NH Antofagasta

La Rinconada Beach is located in the San Luciano Hill slope near Antofagasta. Its warm and calm waters make it a perfect place to enjoy outdoor and sport activities. The walks and excursions are possible in the San Luciano natural slope, enjoying the typical fauna that includes seagulls, lizards, crabs and sea dogs.

Paranal Hill Observatory is the most important astronomic investigation center in the country. It belongs to the Austral European Observatory (ESO) and it has high technology equipment for scientific reseach. For those who would like to visit the observatory, it´s necessary to ask for authorization to ESO in Antofagasta. The tours, only the 2 last weekends of the month, allow you to see the infrastructure and participate in chats about the astronomic world.

Located in Antofagasta, La Portada National Monument is a natural formation in the middle of the sea. It's a big attraction in the area and the most recognizable spot in Antofagasta. This geographic formation is placed 50 meters above sea level, formed by volcanic rocks that emerged from the water over 100 millions b.C. It is 31,27 hectares big. La Portada was named "The Opening", due to the form in which rocks were shaped by the wind and the force of the ocean, creating a big hole in the shape of an entrance in the rocks. Today, La Portada is an excellent place to watch the landscape, surrounded by torrent waters.

Nearby Mejillones, Hornito beach has all the conditions to enjoy a sunny day by the sea. Hornito –with warm waters and small waves- is surrounded by amazing cliffs. It also features great quality sand, soft enough to set a picnic on the surface. You can otherwise take walks by the seashore.
