Blue Spring is the largest spring on the St. Johns River and releases a historical average of 165 million gallons per day. The spring pool is circular, with a notable boil in the center and steep sandy banks that rise approximately 15 to 20 feet above water level. The spring run flows about 1,050 feet to the St. Johns River through a dense hardwood and palm forest. It’s great picturesque moment with the live oak trees leaning over the run. The growing manatee population here at the Blue Springs State Park has reached as high as 371 during the 2010 hard freeze, giving park visitors a spectacular viewing experience from the boardwalks and overlooks along the spring run. We found that the spring run is a crucial winter refuge for the St. Johns River manatee population. This means that swimming, diving, and canoeing are restricted from November 15th to March 15th. The Blue Springs State Park has much more to offer, including a historic house built in 1872 on a prehistoric shell midden, as well as boat tours on the St. Johns River, picnic areas, and trails. It’s an awesome areas to get back to nature.

If Skydiving is on your bucket list...come on over to DeLand! Here at Skydive Deland you can Tandem Skydive or AFF Skydive. Tandem includes you and an instructor being in a one parachute system. Whereas, AFF skydiving is a seven step progression program. In Tandem you will free fall 14,000 feet going 120 mph or faster, and in AFF your two instructors and you free fall 13,500 feet in about 50 seconds. At the Comfort Inn we absolutely love our skydivers; they come from all over the globe. Many say Deland is their favorite jump zone. Even if you don’t par take in skydiving, it is extremely neat to watch them as they are free falling. We find that our parking lot has a perfect view. However, if you are more interested in “dinner and a show” you can enjoy the watch from the “Perfect Spot” restaurant located at Skydive Deland.

The oldest college in Florida, Stetson University dates back to 1883, when it was first named DeLand Academy. It received its official name, Stetson University, in honor of its benefactor, John B. Stetson who designed and manufactured headwear to include the famous Stetson hat. The university has had the unique privilege of being some of Florida’s firsts, such as, being the first college of law, and first collegiate newspaper. It is the oldest school of business administration and music, and they were Florida’s first private university to integrate. This incredible school has 73 academic programs making it hard to not find the right place for you. They are accredited by numerous accrediting agencies such as the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of business, and Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (C.A.C.R.E.P.).
