Local Attractions

The Opera House

Theater
2 km away
One of the city’s most prominent landmarks, the Opera House was custom built in 1897 by French architect Eugene Ferret. In 1955 it was transformed into South Vietnam’s Assembly House and has undergone several refurbishments since. It is only open to the public during events. Tickets are available on location.
7 Lam Son Square, District 1
Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City Museum

Museum
1 km away
Die-hard museum folk will enjoy this place. And it's history and architecture are a big draw. This was the residence of President Ngo Dinh Diem prior to his assassination in November 1963. The collection is perhaps less interesting. Not to be confused with the Ho Chi Minh Museum.
65 Ly Tu Trong St, District 1
Ho Chi Minh, VN 700000

Central Post Office

Historical landmark
2 km away
One of the most popular attractions, this post office is the largest in Vietnam. Built between 1886 and 1891 by renowned architect Gustave Eiffel, the vaulted roof and arched windows are reminiscent of early European railway stations. An enormous picture of Ho Chi Minh overlooks proceedings.
Dong Khoi, District 1
Ho Chi Minh City, VN

Reunification Palace

Historical landmark
1 km away
The Reunification Palace was designed by Ngo Viet Thu for South Vietnam’s former President, Ngo Dinh Diem, during the American War. The official handover of power took place here on April 30, 1975 and the place became a monument to that fateful date. The highlight is the basement looking like a war-time movie set. Near that is 30-4 Park.
135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, District 1
Ho Chi Minh City, VN

Notre Dame Cathedral

Historical landmark
2 km away
The city centre Cathedral, built in 1877, is one of Saigon’s architectural marvels, built with materials imported from France. Sitting between two streams of traffic, ouside the streets are always bustling with traffic and street vendors. Inside, the decor is austere, but the church is lively during services and is a popular location for wedding photos.
Cong Xa Paris, District 1
Ho Chi Minh City, VN

Ben Thanh Market

Shopping
2 minutes away
Ben Thanh sells everything in a packed grid. Clothes and fabric in front give way to kitchenware and souvenirs, backing on to food and produce. Be prepared as sellers here are particularly intense. There are cheaper markets in town, but Ben Thanh’s history and central location make it a popular stop for tourists.
Intersection of Le Loi, Ham Nghi, and Le
Ho Chi Minh City, VN

Fine Arts Museum

Museum
1 km away
The Fine Arts Museum is inside an exquisite French colonial villa. The first floor displays changing exhibits of contemporary art and the second features sketches, paintings and statues, many of which focus on resistance to colonial rulers. The third floor shows older works from Vietnam's history.
97A Pho Duc Chinh, District
Ho Chi Minh City, VN

23/9 Park

Park
1 minute away
In the centre of the Saigon’s famous backpacker area, 23/9 Park is a must know for anyone who travels to Ho Chi Minh City. This park is a great introduction to the vibrant commercial hub that is Saigon. Take a seat outdoors and watch or talk with a range of people from all over the world, speaking all sorts of different languages.
