Nehru Park is one of the biggest and best-maintained public parks in New Delhi. So, if you’re looking for a lush space for a picnic plan or a morning stroll, we say you head over now. Nehru Park is open every day of the week till 8pm. It’s spread over 80 acres and has concrete pathways for you to get your jog on. You’ll also find two open air gyms and, quite obviously, a whole lot of green space to stretch, exercise, and even play a game of cricket or football (or frisbee?). The location is central, too, so it's quite accessible. The park is also great to take your dogs for walks—they'll be ecstatic when they see all that open space, so brace yourself—but make sure to clean up after them and keep the park in a neat, clean condition. Nehru Park also hosts a bunch of music and food fests throughout the year (especially in winters).

Sunder Nursery

Park
25 minutes away
Sunder Nursery is flanked by the World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb (Above) on the South and the historic Purana Qila (Below) on the North and aligned to the historic Grand Trunk Road on the West. It was originally established in the early 20th century when the Imperial Delhi complex was being planned and constructed. It was used as a place for propagating trees and other plants to be used in the new capital city, and also for testing species brought from other parts of India and from overseas, to pick those which successfully thrive in Delhi’s harsh climate. Sunder Nursery, 90 acres abutting Humayun’s Tomb, boasting of 6 World Heritage Monuments, 300 tree and plant species, a paradise garden complete with marble fountains, 80 resident bird species, amongst other attractions, has been named amongst the 100 WORLD’S GREATEST PLACES of 2018 by TIME Magazine. The landscape master plan, designed by Shaheer Associates has created a truly urban scale, deriving inspiration from the traditional Indian concept of congruency between nature, garden and utility coupled with environmental conservation. In addition to the formal landscape in the setting of the monuments, a micro-habitat zone has been created for flora that occupies Delhi’s ridge, river edge, plains and other specialised zones. To upgrade CPWD nursery operations, 20 acres are dedicated for nursery functions. An effective irrigation system has also been installed to optimize the use of water and ensure rainwater harvesting. To create a haven for birds, large portions have been planted as bird habitat and being secured to protect ground nesting birds. The water bodies will also encourage migratory birds.
