Forsyth Park

Recreation
5 blocks away
Forsyth Park is a beautiful city park located in the historic district. It is 30 acres and contains walking paths, a café, a children's play area, a Fragrant Garden for the blind, a large fountain, tennis courts, basketball courts, areas for soccer and Frisbee, and home field for Savannah Shamrocks Rugby Club. From time to time, there are concerts held at Forsyth to the benefit of the public. The most popular feature is the fountain at the north end of the park, added in 1858, and is reminiscent of fountains in the Place de la Concorde in Paris. In season the Forsyth Park Farmers Market is held on the South End of the park with many locally grown goodies.

American Prohibition Museum

Museum
4 blocks away
Located in City Market, our unique Savannah Museum displays the history of prohibition in America from 1907-1933 and the roots of NASCAR. Not your average "Dry" Museum, the American Prohibition Museum is the first and only museum in the United States dedicated to the history of Prohibition. While here, guests will travel back in time to the early 1900s, as anti-alcohol rallies swept the nation and the "booze problem" was pushed to the fore-front of American politics. Over the weekends the bar at the end of the tour becomes a speakeasy, Congress Street Up. Once inside Congress Street Up, you'll feel like you were immediately transported back in time to the Roaring Twenties, except for all the people at the bar looking at their smartphones. The cocktails are authentic to the era, including a Mary Pickford (with white rum and cranberry juice it was the Cosmo of its day, named for one of the era's most iconic celebrities), the French 75 and Pimm's Cups.

Tybee Island

Recreation
15 mi. away
Drive 20 minutes east of Savannah, Georgia, through a few miles of wide sky and salt marshes. This is where you will find Tybee Island — perhaps the most laid-back location on the southeastern coast. There are miles of beach, forts and museums and a great old lighthouse; endangered birds and other animal species; kayaks and bikes to rent (along with all kinds of hotels, motels, cottage and condo rentals too). Days on Tybee Island are as active, or lazy, as mood demands. Local galleries, shops and restaurants offer changes of pace and taste. And, of course, historic Savannah’s nearby.
