Local Attractions

Aspen Center for Physics

2 minutes away
Adjacent to the Aspen Meadows property, the Aspen Center for Physics offers free public lectures each summer through the Heinz R. Pagels Pagels Memorial Public Lecture Series. Presented by some of the country's most eminent authorities, the talks are designed to pique the interest of the general public in subjects related to physics. A few recent titles include: "Probing the Creation: Tests for the Big Bang," "Quantum Mechanics in Your Everyday Life," and "Do Computers Think?" During the Winter Conference, two or three public lectures and/or discussions are offered by specialists participating in the conferences at the Physics Center. Many of these lectures are videotaped by the Aspen Science Education Outreach Program for distribution to Colorado and Utah high schools. The excellent research collection in the Physics Center Library, including a section on the history of science, is available for use by the general public.

Maroon Bells Wilderness Area

26 minutes away
The Maroon Bells are located in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, (near Aspen), and are considered to be the most photographed peaks in Colorado. If you’re a nature lover and wondering what you want to see in Colorado, I highly recommend visiting these peaks. I consider them to be the most spectacular mountain peaks in the whole United States.

Aspen Mountain

3 minutes away
Towering above the downtown core, Aspen ‘Ajax’ Mountain is a sight to be seen. World-renowned skiing and mountain scene entertain in the winter months while summer hosts free music atop the mountain, the world’s second highest Frisbee-golf course and incredible views. Take the Silver Queen Gondola up to the top and see for yourself the surrounding majestic Elk Mountain Range.

Aspen Music Festival

Adjacent to the Aspen Meadows property and set in the awe-inspiring Colorado Rockies, the Aspen Music Festival and School has carried on the vision of creativity and education that started with the 1949 Goethe Bicentennial Convocation. Elizabeth and Walter Paepcke of Chicago launched the two-week celebration in Aspen that brought figures such as Albert Schweitzer, Arthur Rubinstein, and many other noted individuals for lectures, symposia, and concerts. Uniting the intersecting worlds of ideas, art, and natural beauty, this event started something special: fostering the growth of the human spirit through the melding of art and nature. Today, over sixty years later, the AMFS continues pursuing that ideal with an eight-week summer festival of more than 320 events - including orchestral concerts, chamber music, opera, contemporary music, master classes, lectures, and kids' programs. Each day brings concerts to the 2,050-seat Benedict Music Tent (an acoustically superior and award-winning permanent structure that opened in 2000), the beautifully restored Victorian Wheeler Opera House, the exceptional Harris Concert Hall, as well as in churches and other halls around Aspen. Many events are free, and other tickets range up to $80. Lawn seating is always free.

Additional Information

RENOVATION August 21, 2017 to June 4, 2018 The Aspen Meadows Resort is looking forward to breaking ground on the renovation of the Reception Center building starting August 2017. View the gallery on our website for renderings and images. During the Renovation period the following changes will be made to our normal operations: Our Front Desk will be relocated to the Resnick-Malek Health Club. Breakfast and lunch will be served in the Kaufman room in the lower level of the Doerr-Hosier Center. We will feature an enhanced room service menu, and grab-and-go items will be available at the Front Desk. Plato's Restaurant and Hefner Lounge will be closed during this time period. Our Town Shuttle Service will continue to run 24 hours a day, departing on the hour and half hour, as well as upon request. Spearheaded by The Aspen Institute, and in partnership with Jeffrey Berkus Architects and Shaw Construction, the renovation of the historic Reception Center will incorporate a modern design aesthetic while preserving the key elements of the 1955 architectural work of renowned Bauhaus artist and architect Herbert Bayer and local Aspen architect Fritz Benedict. While honoring Herbert Bayer's masterful design, Jeffrey Berkus Architects has envisioned a Reception Center for the future. Notably, the renovation will include the construction of a brand new Pavilion built atop what is currently Merrill Patio. The elegantly designed Pavilion will expand the restaurant space while also providing an all-weather venue for events that will accommodate 100 additional guests. An outdoor deck will be added along the side of what is currently Meadows Restaurant, allowing for expanded outside seating and dining. Moderators Bridge will be an additional outdoor entrance leading directly to the deck on the upper level of the Reception Center. With the renovation of, and addition to, the Reception Center comes even more incredible views of Castle and Maroon Valleys, ideal for those looking to host events with a beautiful mountain backdrop.
