Designer Shopping

For a keepsake of your stay, a little designer shopping is surely in order. Find high fashion, unique artwork and decorative interior items. Auckland blends cafes and couture in charming urban precincts where you will love to browse. The ridge roads above the CBD are home to boutiques and bars that locals frequent. Character and cool co-exist in these transformed late-19th century neighbourhoods of Ponsonby, Herne Bay and Parnell.

Exploring Hauraki Gulf & Waitemata Harbour

Recreation
Auckland is the City of Sails, the ocean its playground. Soak up the spectacle from the superbly situated waterfront Sofitel. Close by, a bevy of restaurants and bars offers you a window seat. Gaze across the Waitemata Harbour or head out on the Hauraki Gulf to sample the vineyards of Waiheke Island or hike up Rangitoto’s peak. Hop aboard an America’s Cup sailing yacht, charter fishing craft, dolphin sight-seeing launch or jet boat thrill ride.

Central City Excursions

Recreation
Auckland’s compact CBD, with the Sky Tower at its apex, is easily explored on foot. Adrenaline junkies can bungy from the 328m-high landmark. Lovers of history and sailing should visit the Maritime Museum. Learn of the Polynesian's epic voyages to the place they named Aotearoa [Land of the Long White Cloud], of tall ships and racing yachts. Find Auckland Art Gallery uptown. A short cab ride takes you to the Museum, Domain or Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium.

Recommended Day Trips

Recreation
Transport your view of Auckland with an excursion beyond the city limits. A 35-minute ferry ride whisks you to Waiheke Island, renowned for its wine, olives and sheltered bays. Way out west, through bush-clad hills, find wild surf at Piha. Travel two hours south through fertile green hinterland and you will enter the magical world where The Hobbit was filmed or explore Waitomo’s awe-inspiring caves.

Exploring Auckland

Recreation
What better way to view Auckland than atop one of its long dormant volcanic cones. Mt Eden is a natural high and Mt Victoria crowns quaint seaside Devonport. Take in the sweep of sky and sea. Feel the spirit that the indigenous Maori people believe inhabits the natural world. Learn their stories within the classically built War Memorial Museum which stands a proud sentinel over the CBD. Man and nature, heritage and modernity, the city awaits.
