Belgrade is situated in south-eastern Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula. It lies on two international waterways, at the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube which surround it on three sides. Because of its position, it has rightly been called "Gateway to the Balkans" and the "Door to Central Europe. Convention tourism is a significant segment of Belgrade's tourist program, since the town has all the essential resources for this type of event: accommodation, convention halls, exhibition pavilions, accompanying tourist programs as well as experienced convention organisers. Seminars, symposia, congresses, fairs and scientific and professional gatherings are organised the whole year round in a large number of convention and trade fair buildings in Belgrade, of which the leading ones are the Sava Centre, Belgrade Fair, Belgrade Arena and Expo XXI. On top of this the majority of Belgrade hotels have convention and trade fair facilities.
