The building itself, a castle no less, dates back to the 16th Century, but what is inside is up-to-date in technological innovation. The result is astronomical. Here you can see numerous exhibits about science and space as well as use some of the hands on activities like learning how to use a telescope. Please note last admission is 16:00. The castle closes at 17:00 and viewing the exhibits takes approximately 1 hour

Follow the old distillery trail through mills, malting, corn stores, still house, warehouses and kilns and sample the renowned Jameson Whiskey in the bar with minerals for children. Visitors can also see the largest original Pot Still, with a capacity of 32,000 gallons and the Old Waterwheel manufactured in 1825 to provide motive power prior to the days of electricity, and is still turning today. While at the distillery why not take the opportunity to become a qualified Irish whiskey taster and be presented with a certificate.

The cells are furnished with amazingly life-like wax figures; original graffiti on cell walls tell the innermost feelings of some inmates while a very spectacular audio visual tells the social history and contrasting lifestyles of 19th century in Cork and why some people turned to crime and some ended up in Australia.
