Edison & Ford Winter Estates

Historical Landmark
Visitors to the Edison & Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers will enjoy 20 acres of historical buildings, historic gardens, the Edison Botanic Research Lab and the Edison Ford Museum. The newly restored buildings include the Edison Main House, Guest House, and Caretaker’s House and the Ford House. The 1929 historic landscape is throughout the property including the award winning Moonlight Garden. The Edison Ford Museum has hundreds of inventions, artifacts and special exhibits. In addition to providing the opportunity to explore the winter retreats of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, the site offers opportunities for the public to enjoy its park like environment for special events, weddings, corporate functions and meetings, exhibits and ongoing education programming. Throughout the year, this National Register Historic Site, Florida Historic Landmark and Winner of the National Trust for Historic Preservation Restoration Award offers visitors of all ages a chance to step back into “old Florida” and the opportunity to learn more about the world through unique historical, scientific and cultural experiences. In 2014 the Edison Botanic Research Laboratory was designated as a National Historic Chemical Landmark by the American Chemical Society. Open Daily 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Last Guided Tour starts at 4:00 pm. Self-guided audio tours available in English, German, French, and Spanish. Maps available in English, German, French and Spanish. German language historian-led tours are also available every Wednesday at 10:30am.

Reveal your passion for enriching artistic encounters at our historic architectural gem. We welcome Chico’s as this season’s new Venue Sponsor! With captivating live performances in classical, jazz, world, and rock music and cutting-edge theatre in the Capital Gallery, the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center provides unique entertainment throughout the year. Delight in paintings, sculptures and conceptual art exhibitions from local and international artists in the Grand Atrium plus independent film screenings. In addition to gallery exhibits, live performances, and film, the center hosts annual special events to benefit the Art Center and other area charities. CenturyLink Sports Complex

The Twins are spending their 26th Spring Training season at the CenturyLink Sports Complex in 2016. The CenturyLink Sports Complex is home to Hammond Stadium, five additional playing fields as well as the new Twins Player Development Academy. It is also the home to two Twins' minor league affiliates, housing both the Ft. Myers Miracle of the Single-A Florida State League and the Rookie level Gulf Coast League Twins. In addition, the complex features four state-of-the-art softball fields, which are utilized throughout the year by collegiate and community teams. The main stadium was renamed Bill Hammond Stadium late in the 1994 spring season in honor of the Deputy County Commissioner who was instrumental in getting the complex built for the Twins.

The Florida Everblades

Since their inception in 1998, the Florida Everblades have hosted more than 3.6 million fans in over 600 regular season games, with an average of 6,361 per game, and have finished in the top 5 in league attendance in 13 of their 17 seasons, leading the the league five times. The Everblades also hosted the Compuware /ECHL All-Star Game in 2003. The Everblades have earned a post-season berth in 16 of 17 seasons of their existence in the ECHL. On May 23, 2012, the team won its first ECHL Championship with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers in Game 5 of the 2012 Kelly Cup Finals in front of a standing room only crowd at Germain Arena. During the 2003-04 season, the Everblades captured the Eastern Conference title and made their first ever trip to the Kelly Cup Finals, and followed that up by becoming the first team in Kelly Cup history to make back-to-back trips to the Kelly Cup Finals after capturing the 2004-05 American Conference Championship. Florida has also been awarded the Brabham Cup in 1998-99 & 2008-09, for finishing with the best regular season record in the entire ECHL. The team has amassed more than 700 wins in its 17-year history, and have helped place 31 players to the National Hockey League. The Everblades are the ECHL affiliate for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning. The Everblades compete in the ECHL which currently stands at 28 member teams. The ECHL is entering its 28th season, and nearly 600 former ECHL players have reached the National Hockey League.

Downtown Music Walk

The River District comes alive every month with live music on 3rd Friday in the downtown Fort Myers River District. Over a dozen participating venues feature music by local and regional talent. Restaurants, bars, art galleries, and shops will showcase a wide range of music during Music Walk. From jazz and blues to rock, drums and much more. Each month will brings great music and new energy to the historic streets of downtown Fort Myers. If you plan on spending the night we recommend booking your hotel room in advance. The event will brings out thousands of music and art lovers to the River District. Organized by the River District Alliance who also manage Fort Myers Art Walk and many other downtown events. Music Walk was conceived as a sister event to the extremely popular first Friday Art Walk which brings out over 2,000 people during off-peak months!

After buying those special gifts, move on to Capt Fishbones for a delicious lunch or dinner. Both the Swamp Bar and Dog Bones Café staff can’t wait to serve your favorite beverage. We also have the Little Matey menu for smaller appetites. If you love fish, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday is the World Famous all you can eat Shell Factory Fish Fry. Babyback Ribs are Thursday’s special all day. Remember, the Shell Factory is Dog friendly (not allowed inside the restaurant or Nature Park) so bring your four legged friend with you. We have plenty of DOG BONES. With your appetite satisfied, stroll on over to the Shell Factory Nature Park. The Nature Park has over 380 live animals in their natural habitats. For the more curious, we have our own ECO LAB and TOUCH CENTER where you can get up close and personal with a variety of creatures. You will see everything from alligators, to snakes, to a newly acquired Mini Horse located in the Petting Farm.
