Local Attractions

Zoo Krefeld

9 km away
The zoo currently accommodates about 1000 animals of 200 different species in an area covering 13 hectares (32 acres). Along with the numerous outdoor enclosures, it is the thematic buildings such as the tropical monkey house and the rainforest house which visitors find particularly fascinating. The Butterfly Jungle with its large number of different species and the large animal enclosure with elephants and rhinoceroses are always worth a visit. Other focal points of Krefeld Zoo are the inhabitants from the African savannah, tropical birds and big cats as well as the breeding of snow leopards.

Recreation Park Elfrather See

14 km away
Fun in the water, sport and entertainment - all of this is offered by the Elfrather See recreational park. A regatta course, bathing lake, bird island and numerous green areas have been laid out over an area of around 138 hectares (341 acres). In the summer in particular, the sprawling complex attracts numerous sportsmen and women, as well as sun worshippers. A number of water sports clubs have settled around the E Lake, as the Krefelders like to call it. The lake offers opportunities for rowers, sailors and windsurfers to enjoy their sports. Model boats also have their own section. With the appropriate licence, it is also possible to fish in Elfrather See at designated areas along the bank of the regatta course. A disused boat has also been sunk in the lake for divers, representing an underwater attraction in the form of a wreck. The German Life Saving Association (DLRG)and the lifeguard service of the German Red Cross take turns to make sure that the water is safe. Swimming is only allowed in the separate bathing lake.

Burg Linn Museum

8 km away
The oldest fortress on the Lower Rhine is located in the historic Krefeld suburb of Linn. The former country castle belonging to the Electorate of Cologne has its origins around 1200. She became the property of the City of Krefeld in 1926. The beautiful water castle is well preserved and includes a bailey, hunting lodge and tithe barn. In the accompanying Landscape Museum it is possible to view excavation finds from the days of Roman rule in the 5th century and the time of the Frankish princes. The special items included in the exhibition are the gilded articles buried along with the princes in the largest continuous and well-preserved burial site in Gellep-Stratum. A further attraction is the mediaeval barge from the time of Charles the Great. Concerts and readings are regularly held in the great hall of Linn Castle. The castle grounds, including the surrounding park, provide an impressive backdrop for events of all kinds.
