Whiteface Mountain

10 mi. away
When you get to the top of Whiteface, you'll be at the top of Northeast skiing. No ski mountain in the east reaches higher than ours. Around you, dozens of Adirondack peaks jut into the horizon. The fresh air filling your lungs has just blown over a protected park larger than Yellowstone and Yosemite, combined. And below you lie trails that have led Olympic athletes to glory. American Phil Mahre won silver here in the 1980 Games. Andrew Weibrecht, a local who grew up skiing at Whiteface, competed in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and brought home the bronze medal in the Super G. It's your turn. Whiteface opened in 1958 and has earned its place in the annals of big-mountain skiing. It has the greatest vertical drop in the east, which means if pointing the boards downhill is your thing, you'll have plenty of opportunities. We regularly stage major national and international events, yet welcome first-time skiers every day. We have 86 runs (a third of which are rated for experts), 11 lifts including a gondola, terrain parks, adrenaline-pumping, between-the-trees skiing and six mountainside restaurants. Whiteface is the Olympic Mountain, which means not only can you carve the same turns as the world's best racers, you can visit the other Olympic facilities, like the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex and the Olympic Sports Complex, just down the road. Whiteface stands tall, but it's within reach of skiers and riders of all levels. Our Kids Kampus provides a fun place for families who are just learning to set an edge. And our Snowsports Pros are here to help people of all ages and abilities hone their skills and become as good as they want to be. This is a place that has brought the best out of world-class athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, all-mountain skiers and riders and beginners for years. It's your turn

Lake Placid Boat Tours

1 mi. away
One Hour Scenic Boat Cruise on Lake Placid Lake. Wilderness beauty. Adirondack history. Serenity. Cruise the pristine waters of Lake Placid in one of our enclosed pontoon boats. The hour-long, narrated tour travels 16 miles on one of the world's most beautiful lakes. See and hear about the stately manors situated along the shore, Adirondack wildlife, and Whiteface Mountain, site of the alpine events during the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. A Lake Placid boat tour is a must for all visitors to the Adirondacks. Rain or shine, it is truly a delightful experience.

Olympic Jumping Complex

2 mi. away
At the Olympic Jumping Complex, you'll see up close, the ramp that ski jumpers launch from before flying over the length of a football field. Take the glass enclosed elevator to the observation deck of the K-120 meter jump. At the top you will find a panoramic view of the Adirondack High Peaks as you stroll through the ski jumpers preparation room. Then get a bird's eye view of what the jumpers see as they start to accelerate towards the end of the ramp. Nearby, aerialists will spring off steep kickers on the freestyle hill in a flurry of twists, turns and tumbles. We are all taught that you need wings to fly. Not in the case of Nordic Combined Olympian Bill Demong, who made history at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Bill, a local Olympian, was the first American to win Nordic Combined gold. The Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid was Bill's training ground for many years and is currently the training site for many aspiring young athletes who hope one day to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team
