Later renovated and enlarged, in the 16th and 17th centuries it was one of the largest citadels in Europe. Extensively rebuilt by Luca Beltrami in 1891–1905, it now houses several of the city's museums and art collections.

Historical Landmark
3 km away
Milan Cathedral or the Duomo, is the Gothic cathedral church of Milan, dedicated to St Mary of the Nativity. The Duomo was completed after six centuries of workmanship, featuring a number of contrasting styles, and, nowadays, is the largest church in Italy (after St. Peter's Basilica is in the State of Vatican City) and the third largest in the world. It can be considered as the symbol of the city, together with the Madoninna statue, on the dyre of the Duomo, at the height of 110m height. Given Milan's notoriously damp and foggy climate, the Milanese consider it a fair-weather day when the Madonnina is visible from a distance, as it is so often covered by mist.
