Lower Broadway

Lower Broadway

Nightlife
3 blks
For those who don't know, a honky tonk is an establishment that contains at least one rockin' stage, cold beverages, and a party that lasts all day, everyday. And we mean every SINGLE day. Nashville's Honky Tonk Highway, located on Lower Broadway, is a row of honky tonks pumping live music into the streets from 10am to 3am. One of the best parts: it doesn't cost a thing. Meaning no cover charge. Meaning save your money for more important things like the tip jar! Because in Music City we understand music should be shared to all. And you never know who you’ll see in these Lower Broadway clubs. Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Gretchen Wilson, Dierks Bentley and other stars began their careers on this amazing street. MEANING the person you see singing on the stage in Music City might be the next big thing.

Ryman Auditorium

Ryman Auditorium

Theater
4 blks
The Ryman is known around the globe as one of the best performance halls in the world. Named Theatre of the Year in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 by the venerable trade publication Pollstar Magazine, the historic venue is currently ranked twenty-fifth in the world and nineteenth domestically based on year-to-date tickets sales in the Pollstar Theatre category. Other awards include Venue of the Year nods from both the Academy of Country Music and the International Entertainment Buyers Association, and recently named SRO Venue of the Year presented by Country Music Association. When you walk through the doors of historic Ryman Auditorium, one thing becomes clear right away: this isn’t just another nightly music venue, and it’s so much more than a daytime tourist stop. This place is hallowed ground. This is the exact spot where bluegrass was born—where Johnny Cash met June Carter, where souls were saved and a slice of history was nearly lost. It was right here that country music found an audience beyond its own back porch, and countless careers took off as deals were signed on napkins and paper scraps backstage. This is a building where anything is possible: a soul can find redemption, a crumbling building can find salvation, and an unknown kid with a guitar can find his or her name in lights.

Old Hickory Country Club
Old Hickory Country Club
Nashville
Old Hickory, Tennessee was a lot like other company towns of the 1920’s South. The village was built and owned by the areas sole employer, E.I. DuPont Nemours & Company. Old Hickory Country Club was founded in 1926 by the DuPont Company for their employees. The golf course was once the residence of the French Huguenots family, the Bondurants. The original Bondurant house was torn down in the 1940’s and replaced with a replica which is what we now know as Old Hickory Country Club. The quest for excellent golf lead R.F. "Bob" Rives, Ky Williams, Frank Ernst, Bob Megee, Laird Stabler and Tom Evans of the DuPont community, to visit "Boss" Robinson, who was living in the Bondurant house at the time. "Boss" Robinson granted permission for The DuPont Men to layout the golf course. The Men hired Belle Meade golf pro, George Livingstone, to design the course. Early greens were built of sand over sprayed with cottonseed oil to impart a solid putting surface. The original club opened with just 6 holes, but expanded to 18 holes in the summer of 1941. Even today, Livingstone's handiwork is discernible at different points throughout the course. Many great athletes have history planted in The Club including Golf Pro Harold Eller and Charles H. Alexander (Pro Alex). Harold Eller was the golf pro at Old Hickory Country Club from 1945-1979 and we host a Pro-Am tournament annually in his memory
