Cancellation Policy
Any requests for postponement or cancellation by Licensee must be made in writing. The Licensee may request to postpone a confirmed event up to five business days before the first day of the event. Upon acceptance of the postponement request, the Licensee will be granted a postponement payment credit in the amount equal to all deposits and payments received by the Smithsonian prior to the date of postponement, less a $500 fee for incurred event preparations. The postponement payment credit may be used toward the total rental fee of one event scheduled within 365 days of the original event. Postponement payment credits, including applied credits that exceed the rental fee of the rescheduled event, are non-refundable and will not be returned. Requests to postpone received within five business days of the event will be considered a cancellation by Licensee and no credit will be issued. If the event is canceled by Licensee, any and all deposits and payments received by the Smithsonian prior to the date of cancellation are non-refundable and will not be returned.
Additional details
The museum can accommodate private events both during and after museum hours in several building spaces. Space details include daytime and after-hours availability and capacities. The Office of Special Events is a planning partner in all rental events taking place at the museum and would be delighted to discuss your event further. The museum is a tenant in the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House and some spaces are jointly managed by the Smithsonian Institution and the U.S. General Services Administration.
