National Mask Museum

Museum
8 km away
This museum is considered among the best in Mexico due to its peculiarity and great collection of nearly a thousand masks from every corner of the country. The exhibit is completed with a small collection of Asian masks, mainly from India. Magic and tradition intertwined with the ancestral rite symbolism already lost in time and substituted for new and complex syncretism in which the popular wit is present in each false face. This is an institution dedicated to the study, promotion and spreading the Mexican mask as a significant cultural product, aspiring to present the most characteristic about mask and the endless traditions that represent the world, and linking its symbolism with different art expressions as well. http://www.mexicoescultura.com/recinto/66051/en/national-mask-museum-of-san-luis-potosi.html

Among the locations to receive luminous decoration are the Plaza del Carmen, the San Francisco Garden with its temple, Fundadores Plaza, The Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, and more. San Luis Potosi is the first city in Mexico to join 49 other Cities of Light around the world in employing this type of lighting. San Luis was established in 1592 around the Plaza De Los Fundadores. Its north side is occupied by the State’s university (a former Jesuit college dating to 1653), and the Jesuit Capilla de Loreto, dating to the early 1700’s. The Sagrario Church, built in 1675, is also located in this plaza. The Alameda Park, pleasant for strolling, marks the eastern boundary of downtown. Across the street is the Centro de Difusion Cultural, the city’s main cultural center with an active calendar of performing arts. Art exhibits and galleries are open to the public as well.
