...This 832-acre Metropolitan Park surrounds the Palote Dam and lake, the city's largest body of water. The scenic park offers an array of recreational activities for groups and families. Groups can rent bikes, eat at the lakeside restaurants or barbecue patios, go on a boat or train ride, and, in November through March, perhaps catch a glimpse of some 36 bird species that migrate from the U.S. and Canada each year. The Metropolitan Park is protected by the National Institute of Ecology to conserve the wildlife that inhabits the park. The park also contains the Children's City, a fun and educational park with an interactive airport for kids, Aerofantasia, as well as a petting zoo. A variety of events are held in the Metropolitan Park, including the Christmas Posada festivities and the annual International Hot Air Balloon Festival during the month of November.
