Salzburg Travel and Things to Do Guide
Welcome to Cvent's MICE guide to Salzburg, a city guide for MICE professionals. Conveniently located in the heart of Europe and the center of Austria, Salzburg is a charming metropolis that enjoys worldwide fame for its rich culture, fascinating history, picturesque landscape and strong business and intellectual atmosphere, which all contribute to Salzburg's reputation as an excellent MICE destination. Salzburg's reputation as a strong economic center also adds to its meeting destination appeal. The area is an important Austrian commercial and business hub, thanks to its proximity to Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the fact that it's one of Europe's major fashion trading hubs and the headquarters for such companies as Red Bull, Porsche, and Sony DADC.
The birthplace of Mozart and the setting of the famous musical The Sound of Music, Salzburg boasts a strong artistic and cultural scene. It has fascinating baroque architecture, first brought to the area more than 400 years ago when powerful archbishops, inspired by the grandiosity of the Papal States of Rome, started transforming the city. From Salzburg's range of theaters, museums, galleries, concerts, and festivals to its beautiful palaces and other architectural gems, MICE participants have plenty to tour and experience in between business functions - and many of its attractions double as private event venues.
MICE groups also enjoy Salzburg's favorable location, modernized infrastructure and transportation system and easy connections to the rest of Europe; Munich International Airport is located only 90 minutes from Salzburg, while Salzburg Airport, located within 15 minutes of the city center, connects Salzburg with other major European hubs.
While in Salzburg, groups can reach most hotels and meeting venues on foot, as well as easily reach the area's nearly 200 attractions and natural spectacles. Salzburg considers mobility very important, which is evident in the fact that its main railway station is within a 15-minute walk from the center of Salzburg, and that its bus lines connect passengers to the main railway station, city center and Salzburg Airport via a number of routes. MICE participants can purchase the Salzburg Event Ticket, which provides cheaper than comparable day passes aboard the city's public transportation network.
Salzburg is home to a number of multifunctional conference centers and meeting venues that echo the city's commitment to quality. Regarded as the city's exhibition center, Salzburg Congress is an attractive event space, with modern conference technology situated in the heart of Salzburg. The venue's 15 meeting and conference rooms offer flexible arrangements for groups of 20 to 2,500 people, as well as a total 32,300 square feet of meeting space. Salzburg Messezntrum-Salzburgarena features 420,000 square feet of event hall space, as well as nearly 235,000 square feet of open space and 3,300 parking spaces. The perfect venue for trade fairs, sporting events, and business conferences, the venue offers a multi-functional event hall that can be divided by nine, as well as modern equipment and furnishings and the 4,500-person Salzburgarena, an oval wooden dome built for cultural, sporting, and business events, as well as entertainment. One of the largest conference venues in Salzburg, Wyndham Grand Salzburg Conference Centre with 20,000 square feet of event space is also home to the city's largest hotel (257 hotel rooms). A 15,000-square-foot conference center and 83-room hotel in one, St. Virgil Salzburg is an "oasis in the city" located in a spacious park that still puts meeting participants in the middle of Salzburg, but amid a serene setting with plenty of group activity and break space. Last but not least, the Crowne Plaza Salzburg - The Pitter & Pitter Event Center offers 8,020 square feet of event space conveniently set in the Salzburg city center across from Mirabell Gardens and Salzburg Congress.
Meeting participants and planners also enjoy Salzburg's meeting perks, which include funding provided by the city's tourism board for conferences held in the city (conditions apply). Meeting planners can also apply for an official reception by officials from the city or state government, as an added personal touch to welcome a group to Salzburg.
