Mexico City Metrobus

Metrobus In an effort to reduce GHG emissions, the Mexico City government partnered with several private companies to provide this unique hybrid form of public transportation in 2005, combining the velocity of the metro with the beauty of the outdoors. In 2009, the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University awarded Mexico City's Metrobus system the Roy Family Award for Environmental Partnership. Thanks to the Metrobus, travel times from one corner of the city to the other have been cut in half. Each station is equipped with 24-hour camera and security surveillance. An Electronic Metrobus Card can be purchased and recharged from machines located in the Metrobus stations. Tickets are $15 MXN ($1.20 USD) for an Electronic Metrobus Card (includes 1 trip), and $5 MXN ($.40 USD) for each ride after that. Metro Mexico City's metro system is in the world's top 10 for size and use. Eleven lines connect nearly every corner of the city. For a mere $3 MXN ($2.40 USD), one can travel from the museums and hotels in the center of the city all the way to the southern tip of town to enjoy lunch and a boat ride in Xochimilco. Many metro station walls are adorned with urban art, photographs or sculptures; there are 356 pieces of art displayed in 22 of the stations at any given time. Considering its immensity, efficiency, safety and accessible price, it is no wonder why over the course of the year it carries more than a billion passengers.
