Riviera Maya
A true tropical paradise, Riviera Maya is well known for its exciting eco adventures, relaxing white beaches and archeological treasures. But this scenic setting serves as much more than just a backdrop for tropical getaways or family vacations. It also sets the stage for successful meetings where attendees can be inspired by the peaceful surroundings. Planners can find plenty to enjoy in this 120-kilometer-long stretch along the coast of the Caribbean Sea, from a zero percent tax on conventions to top-notch convention centers to a close proximity to the United States. Reaching the Riviera Maya is easy thanks to Cancún International Airport. As the 2nd largest airport in Mexico in terms of volume, Cancún International offers direct or non-stop service to destinations across the globe. Visitors can also easily take advantage of the daily bus service from the airport to Playa del Carmen, just 45 minutes away, or grab a cab to other nearby cities of Puerto Morelos or Puerto Aventuras. Throughout the Riviera Maya region, guests are met with a host of amazing hotels and resorts that keep customer service top of mind. The Paradisus Riviera Cancún in Puerto Morelos is an incentive planner's dream, offering Mayan-influenced architecture, a spa certified by the Leading Spas of the World, 496 junior suites and six restaurants, including the four-star L'Hermitage. The all-inclusive Hacienda Tres Ríos was named Central America and Mexico's Leading Green Hotel at the 2009 World Travel Awards thanks to its strict water management program, contributions to the long-term preservation of the local plants and animals and unique use of native building materials in its construction. Many of the top resorts in the region also double as stellar meeting venues. The new 791-suites Grand Velas All Suites & SPA Resort Riviera Maya features 8,500 square meters of flexible space, including two convention areas for up to 3,000 guests. The Green Globe-certified Barceló Maya Beach Resort has several meeting venues spread across its five properties, including a convention center and several meeting rooms. In addition to its more modern developments, Riviera Maya is also home to a host of ancient ruins of the Mayan civilization that once dominated the region such as Chichen Itza and Tulum. These awe-inspiring meetings make for great team building excursions or day-long spouse events. Or arrange a group event outdoors at one of the region's many eco-parks. Enjoy a day of snorkeling or river rafting followed by dinner at Xel-Ha, or book one of the 14 different venues at Xcaret, which offers dolphin swims, jungle walks and authentic Mayan shows.
