Veracruz
Veracruz is the oldest post-Columbian city on the North American continent, with the largest port in Mexico. In fact, the Port of Veracruz is where Spanish Conquistador Hernan Cortez landed in 1519, marking the beginning of the city's bellicose Colonial history. Located on the Gulf coast of Mexico, the city of Veracruz offers a unique blend of tradition and cuisine. The city's main square, Plaza de Armas, and the malecon (boardwalk) offer a pleasant atmosphere for strolling and taking in the city's Colonial feel. Traces of European and Caribbean culture continue to be part of the everyday lives of the city's inhabitants, an example of which is the annual Carnival. There is a wide range of venues in Veracruz in which to host events, group meetings and conferences.
The Port of Veracruz is located 250 miles east of Mexico City on Highway 150, and is easily accessible by land and air. The General Heriberto Jara International Airport has direct flights to and from Dallas and Houston, as well as several major national destinations. ADO runs frequent daily buses from Mexico City and Xalapa Enriquez (the state capital) to Veracruz. It boasts 97,000 square feet of events space and can host up to 14,000 people at once in three major convention halls, which are divisible into 16 different events spaces. Hotel venues in Veracruz account for 5,000 rooms and suites in 50 properties. The city's second-largest venue after the WTC Veracruz is the Novo Mar hotel, which can host up to 2,000 guests for conferences in a meeting room measuring 23,715 square feet.
