Agadir Travel and Things to Do Guide

One of Morocco's principal beach resort and vacation destinations, Agadir is named for the Berber word for "wall," which once surrounded the city. It is far to the south of Marrakech, in a subtropical environment on the Atlantic Ocean. Agadir event venues tend to be comfortably modern for international visitors.
The city's airport is Agadir-Al Massira Airport (AGA), which is 15 miles southeast of the city center. It receives a lot of charter flights full of sun-seeking Northern Europeans but also scheduled service from European countries such as Belgium, France, Germany and the UK.
Chief among exhibition venues in Agadir, the Parc Expo Agadir is suited to huge trade fairs for such industries as agriculture, food and livestock. While it has meeting space, smaller groups gravitate to the hotel venues in Agadir. The hotels suited to business groups here include the 215-room Royal Decameron Tafoukt Beach, which has two meeting rooms and lots of very Moroccan spaces; the 206-room Ryad Mogador Al Madina, which is not a riad but a plush resort hotel, with a conference room able to host up to 250 persons; the 205-room Hotel Coralia Club La Kasbah Agadir, which has five meeting rooms; the 104-room Ibis Agadir, which has four meeting rooms; and the 54-room Hotel Riu Grand Palace Tikida Golf (which is large, despite is small guest room count) and has 36 holes of golf and a 5,000-square-foot conference room.
There are some unique event spots; for example, Actor Agadir, in the Royal Atlas Hotel and a very trendy discotheque, hosts both cutting-edge DJs and beautiful Arabic music, and its small corners or large dance floor can be used by groups outside of regular hours. Other options include such riads as Riad Villa Blanche, which reflects in its own pool and has spacious grounds, wonderfully decorated Moroccan function rooms and 28 guest rooms; 10 miles up the coast in Awrir, recently opened Riad Dar Haven, a gorgeous house with serenity, six guest rooms, more wonderful interior design and two indoor pool courtyards for events; and even larger and more palatial Riad des Golfs, which faces the two golf courses mentioned above and has eight guest rooms. One mile north of Awrir is the coastal village of Taghazout, which was once beloved by hippies, now beloved by surfers and is a perfect place for seafood parties on its beach. In 2015, Taghazout is to get its first large hotel, a 150-room Hyatt Place.
Wonderful restaurants for groups in Agadir include Jardin d'Eau, a mixture of trendiness and Moroccan tradition with occasional music and DJs; Feyrouz, a Lebanese restaurant in the aforementioned Ryad Mogador Al Madina; La Table du Golf in the also aforementioned Riu Grand Palace Tikida Golf; Johara for traditional Moroccan cuisine; and Restaurant Le Quai for seafood at the harbor.
