Weather and Seasonality
Gothenburg has a temperate maritime climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and sunny, averaging around 20°C (68°F) from June to August, while winters have their charm, with an average temperature of about 0°C (32°F), and sometimes snow from December to February. The city receives precipitation more frequently in autumn and winter.
Spring brings new life and longer days, while early summer offers endless daylight, blooming wildflowers, and the celebrated Swedish tradition of Midsummer in June. Late summer brings seas sparkling with sea fire and traditional crayfish parties. Autumn showcases vibrant autumn colours, and in mid-November, Gothenburg lights up with holiday festivities, including Scandinavia’s largest Christmas market at Liseberg Amusement Park. Winter provides outdoor activities like skiing and ice skating, with indoor options and cosy cafes for warmth.
The city’s coastal location ensures milder temperatures than inland areas, but it’s advisable to check current weather forecasts for accurate information before your visit.
