Huntsville has a humid subtropical climate characterized by hot summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures average 89°F, while winter temperatures average 49°F. Although Huntsville commonly sees some snowfall, significant accumulation is rare. They city gets an average of 57.51 inches of rainfall annually, most occurring in March. Due to Huntsville's location 300 miles inland, hurricanes rarely affect the city at full force but rather are downgraded to weakened tropical storms by the time they reach the area. However, tornadoes have been known to occur in the area during spring and fall. The best time to visit Huntsville is in the late winter to early spring. With flowers beginning to bloom as early as February, Huntsville's mild temperatures and very little snowfall offer a refreshing retreat from colder climates.
