Stockton
Welcome to Cvent's Meeting Planning and Event Guide to Stockton, a city guide written for meeting professionals. From its vibrant downtown waterfront district along the historic San Joaquin Delta to its world-class entertainment venues, Stockton is a city with the appeals of a central location, affordability, and a diverse selection of meeting venues, all major selling points for this Northern California destination. Set in California's Central Valley, between Yosemite National Park and coastal beaches, Stockton has both a small-town friendly feel and a big-city portfolio of exciting dining and shopping, lively festivals, and thriving arts organizations.
Stockton is situated 15 miles south of Lodi wine country, 45 miles south of capital city Sacramento, 83 miles east of San Francisco, and 101 miles from South Lake Tahoe. Visitors can reach Stockton via the Stockton Metropolitan Airport, but most fly into nearby Sacramento International Airport (60 miles away from Stockton), Oakland (67 miles), or San Francisco (85 miles). Less than an hour away, Sacramento International Airport serves as Northern California's gateway to air travel, accommodating more than 150 departures and arrivals per day. Sacramento International Airport offers nonstop service throughout North America, to such major markets as Chicago; Ontario CA; Atlanta; and New York. Once in Stockton, meeting delegates can access major downtown attractions via the San Joaquin Regional Transit District's downtown hopper service or connect with Sacramento Regional Transit via the San Joaquin Regional Transit District's interregional commuter service. Stockton's Greyhound and Amtrak stations make bus and rail transport possible.
The city of Stockton embarked upon a major economic expansion and revitalization in the early 21st century, resulting in a new indoor arena, baseball stadium, and marina, all set along Stockton's deepwater channel. Visitors and residents alike delight in the convenience of the new waterfront venues and the many restaurants and hotels that sit within steps of the new venues in Stockton, as well as enjoy the public art that lines the Joan Darrah Promenade. One such result of the revitalization effort, the 20,400-square-foot Stockton Arena, is the city's largest event venue, and the home of the Stockton Thunder professional hockey team. The arena sits adjacent to the new Banner Island Ballpark, 48-slip Stockton Marina, and 179-room University Plaza Waterfront Hotel, and offers seating for between 8,600 and 12,000 people depending on configuration. Groups can opt for full- or half-house seating, as well as gather in the arena's 24 luxury suites, club level, and 5,000 square feet of conference space.
Additional Stockton event venues include the new waterfront Banner Island Ballpark, which sits adjacent to the Stockton Arena. Home to the Stockton Ports, a Class A Advanced affiliate of the Oakland A's, the ballpark features 4,200 fixed seats, four luxury suites, two picnic areas, and an elevated club seating area, as well as a Kids Zone with a bounce house, giant slide, batting cages, and speed pitch. Groups can hold team-building events on the field, as well as rent out the seating bowl area and such spaces as the 200-person Ports Terrace, 200-person Club, 50-person Jackson Rancheria Back Porch, 30-person Conference Room, and 20-person Luxury Suite. In addition to the ballpark, groups can hold outdoor events at Oak Grove Regional Park, a 180-acre paradise with a 10-acre lake, nature center, 400-person amphitheater, and several barbecue-ready pavilions and shelters that accommodate between 30 and 500 people. Hold an event while cruising the rivers of the San Joaquin Delta aboard the 80-passenger California Sunset.
In addition to its remarkable outdoor venues, Stockton is also home to a number of performing arts and cultural venues that double as private event spaces. The downtown Stockton Civic Auditorium offers more than 18,000 square feet of meeting space, as well as such features as a stage with a proscenium arch, a kitchen, and a good-sized lobby area. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Stockton's Bob Hope Theatre showcases local arts, classic films, dance, comedy, and music productions. This “jewel of downtown” with 2,042 red velvet seats and a marble mosaic lobby floor Bob Hope Theatre also welcomes private events.
