Miami Lakes Travel and Things to Do Guide

A suburb of Miami, Miami Lakes started as a massive, master-planned town in the early 1960s. It's an early example of the New Urbanism land design movement highlighted by accessible shopping, narrow, walkable streets and neighborhood parks. Miami Lakes event venues are mostly located in some of the area's signature resorts.
Groups are drawn to Miami Lakes by its convenient location to Miami International Airport, which is 12 miles south of the town, and easy access (about a 25-minute drive) to downtown Miami and the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Small national chain hotels and high-profile resort venues in Miami Lakes highlight the area. Among the hotel selections are the 151-room Courtyard Miami Lakes, with 1,000 square feet of meeting space; and the 86-room Hotel Indigo Miami Lakes, with 1,000 square feet of meeting space. For resort settings, the 205-room Shula's Hotel & Golf Club has 15,000 square feet of meeting space and the 642-room Trump National Doral Miami, 10 miles from Miami Lakes, has 100,000 square feet of meeting space.
Heading the list of off-site venues in Miami Lakes is the Cobb Theaters—Miami Lakes 17, which hosts events like product launches, presentations, training sessions, seminars, private screenings, and teambuilding programs for groups from 50 to 3,000.
When it's time to engage in some after-meeting stress reduction, there are two horse racing venues less than 10 minutes away from Miami Lakes, the Hialeah Park Racing & Casino and Calder Casino & Race Course. Other things to do nearby include shopping at the Miami International Mall and Dolphin Mall and art appreciation at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami. The nearest beach is North Miami Beach, which is 11 miles from Miami Lakes.
The city center of Miami Lakes is home to popular chains like Johnny Rockets, Pei Wei, and Ruby Tuesday as well as Shula's 2 Steak & Sports, which features prime cut steaks, burgers and salads, and a private dining room for groups.
