Metra Commuter Rail

Serving all of northeast Illinois, Metra provides Lake County service aboard four commuter rail lines, totaling 32 train stations. Metra’s Union Pacific/North Line travels along the lakefront from Kenosha, Wisconsin to the Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago, while the North Central Service line travels from Antioch, Illinois in northwest Lake County to Chicago’s Union Station. The Milwaukee District North line travels from Fox Lake in northwest Lake County to Chicago’s Union Station, while the Union Pacific/Northwest Line runs through Lake County, traveling from Harvard in McHenry County to the Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago. Metra fare is based on a zone system. Passengers may purchase 10-ride tickets, unlimited weekend passes, or monthly unlimited passes in addition to one-way tickets.

Pace Suburban Bus System

Serving 130,000 daily riders along 240 routes and a 3,500-square-mile service area, Pace serves as the major bus system for the entire Chicago area, including Lake County. Pace provides both fixed route and paratransit service in Lake County; all of the 21 fixed route buses operate on weekdays, while 12 routes operate on Saturdays and two on Sundays. Regular one-way adult fare is $1.75.
