Kenner
Planners looking for a destination that is conveniently located steps from the Big Easy downtown should consider Kenner. This city (or parish) sits less than 15 miles west of the French Quarter, and is home to the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, making it an accessible and affordable meeting destination. Meeting groups can gather at the Pontchartrain Center or at Kenner venues ranging from a Mardi Gras museum to a planetarium – and everything in between. Kenner's Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport serves as the gateway to New Orleans, welcoming nearly 10 million annual passengers aboard 20 airlines traveling to 40 nonstop destinations. As the largest of Kenner meeting venues, the Pontchartrain Center accommodates up to 3,700 guests and provides space for more than 280 exhibit booths. Meeting spaces include a 9,750-square-foot lobby and 25,000-square-foot mezzanine overlooking Lake Pontchartrain. The center's Belle Grove Plantation Ballroom, which features crystal chandeliers and a walnut dance floor, can accommodate up to 600 guests. For meetings outside of the Pontchartrain Center, Kenner event venues include the 16-block historic district that is known as Rivertown. Located along the shore of the Mississippi River, Rivertown is home to a number of cultural and family attractions, including Rivertown Repertory Theatre, Science Complex, Kenner Planetarium & MegaDome Cinema and Space Center Kenner, among other attractions. Meeting participants can also explore Kenner's Laketown, a 30-acre lakefront attraction perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Laketown has a boat launch, fishing piers, bike path and picnic areas; its newest preservation project is its Environmental Park, a 28-acre land reclamation project that will include natural, grassy marshes and tidal ponds with native flora and fauna. Kenner meeting groups can try their luck at the city's Treasure Chest Casino. The Treasure Chest Casino is a major destination for entertainment—from concerts to family shows and dining—as well as gaming, featuring more than 950 slots and 30 table games. Dining venues in Kenner include such regional eateries as Le Parvenu, which serves American Creole cuisine with a modern twist. Le Parvenu specializes in such selections as oyster doubloons, paneed lobster and mirliton bisque, served in a 75-year-old former tea house. The restaurant welcomes private events and features such dining spaces as four dining rooms and a whitewashed wraparound porch overlooking the restaurant's award-winning gardens....
