Weather and Seasonality
Petoskey Area in the northwest corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula is lucky to experience all four seasons and the weather that goes along with each.
Summer - From the tail-end of May to early September, the Petoskey Area experiences the joys of summertime in Northern Michigan. On average the high temperatures range from high 60s to high 70s with an occasional day in the low 80s. Summertime is meant for long days of fun in the sun with refreshing breezes off Lake Michigan.
Fall - Experience the Petoskey Area's colorful transformation as the leaves change from their summer greens to golden yellows, fiery oranges, and deep reds. Fall weather is typically seen from the end of September through early November, as the air becomes crisp but not yet frigid and with peak fall foliage estimated to be in the second or third weeks of October, weather dependent. Viewing the fall colors with a scenic drive is a local favorite – along the famous Tunnel of Trees where you have beautiful leaves and views of Lake Michigan from picturesque bluffs or one of many other routes through the rolling hills and around the inland lakes of the area.
Winter - The Petoskey Area knows the right way to Winter. They embrace the cold, the snow, and, of course, the après ski! Winter typically goes from late November to early April, give or take as sometimes Old Man Winter blows through earlier or may hang on a bit later. The Petoskey Area is home to 3 of Michigan's best ski slopes - Boyne Mountain Resort, The Highlands, and Nub's Nob - and there is plenty to do, both indoors and outdoors, even if you don't ski at all.
Spring - Petoskey Area in Spring is a season of transition and goes from mid-April until early June and is a time of firsts in the region. Enjoy your first bike ride of the year, first round of golf, first sip of a new wine, and more! March/April can see highs in the low 50s (Fahrenheit) on a sunny day whereas May/June will start to see highs in the high 60s and low 70s. Spring is also an ideal time to hunt for Petoskey Stones as the melting ice has churned up the shoreline and often uncovered stones previously buried.
