Jersey City
Cvent’s Jersey City meeting planning guide is an extensive city guide for Jersey City meeting planners. Part of the Greater New York metropolitan area, Jersey City, NJ, sits between the Hudson River and Upper New York Bay and the Hackensack River and Newark Bay; it faces Lower Manhattan's Financial District. Affordable Jersey City venues, close proximity to a thriving business district, global cuisine, rich culture and recreational activities are just some of the reasons meeting planners are considering this destination for their group gatherings.

A relatively short distance away are the three major airports—Newark Liberty International (6 miles), LaGuardia (11 miles) and John F. Kennedy International (17 miles). Convenient travel to and from Lower Manhattan is possible thanks to the PATH train, ferries and New Jersey Transit.

When it comes to accommodations, travelers from out of town will find a number of hotels to suit their budgets. On the waterfront are the Hyatt Regency Jersey City (the only AAA 4 Diamond property in the area) and the Westin Jersey City Newport. Candlewood Suites Jersey City, Courtyard Jersey City Newport and DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Jersey City are among the other Jersey City venues that welcome groups.

There are several unique venues in Jersey City, including the Landmark Loew's Jersey City Theatre – a throwback to yesteryear when cinema houses were gorgeous places with gold-leaf ceilings, marble columns and plush interiors – which accommodates 170 guests for a sit-down dinner and 225 for a standing cocktail party. The Culinary Conference Center at Hudson Community College has several rooms with different configurations, suitable for groups of 22 in a classroom setting to 200 theater style. The Liberty Science Center provides an interesting backdrop in each of its facilities, including the Science Court, which is ideal for up to 1,200 for receptions and 625 for seated events; and the largest IMAX theater in the U.S., with a 400-seat capacity.

The multi-cultural makeup of Jersey City ensures so many savory meals. In Little India and Little Manila, restaurants serve up authentic and affordable dishes. Diners at the Liberty House Restaurant will enjoy awesome views of the NYC skyline and the Hudson River, along with healthy cuisine made with farm-fresh ingredients. Azucar Cuban Cuisine & Cigars is another popular place to unwind with colleagues.

Shopping may be high on the list of things to do, as there is no sales tax on clothing and only a 3.5 percent sales tax on all goods in select stores in Jersey City. More active types can go kayaking, bicycling and fishing in Liberty State Park, or race the fastest electronic cars in the U.S. at Pole Position Raceway. Exploring the many art galleries and museums, including the Afro-American Historical Society and Jersey City Museum, is another enriching way to spend an afternoon.
