Rutherford Travel and Things to Do Guide

Rutherford, NJ, is a charming town across the Hudson River and in the shadow of New York City. Here, Victorian houses line grand tree-draped streets. Nearby, East Rutherford event venues comprise a veritable campus for large-scale meetings.
Rutherford is easily accessible with Newark Liberty International approximately 13 miles away, LaGuardia Airport about 22 miles away, and Kennedy 27 miles away. It is also a short car, bus or train ride away from Manhattan; Station Square is Rutherford's hub for all modes of transportation.
Its neighboring town, East Rutherford, is home to the 82,500-seat, $1.6-billion MetLife Stadium, host of the 2014 Super Bowl. The stadium has a variety of event spaces for groups as small as 10 to as large as more than 80,000. There are VIP meeting rooms to the field itself for a truly special experience.
Other Rutherford area venues with group options include the IZOD Arena and the Meadowlands Racetrack. First-rate group dining and meeting space is available at the Racetrack's Terraces and Pegasus Restaurants. The Meadowlands Exposition Center, in nearby Secaucus, has 61,000 square feet of exhibit space with five additional meeting rooms and a banquet capacity of 5,000.
When searching for hotel venues in Rutherford and nearby, options also include the 427-room Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel and Conference Center, which has 30,000 square feet of renovated meeting space; the 167-room Renaissance Meadowlands Hotel, which has more than 4,000 square feet of meeting space; and the 304-room Crowne Plaza Meadowlands Hotel & Exhibition Center in Secaucus, which has 33,000 square feet of meeting space including an exhibition hall.
Across from MetLife Stadium is the long-delayed development originally dubbed Xanadu but now named the American Dream. It will feature retail outlets, a 26-screen movie theater, nightclubs, a performing arts theater, restaurants, an indoor ice-skating rink, and an indoor ski slope, An additional 4.5 million square feet are planned for hotels, a conference center and other amenities.
While shopping galore, culture and the arts abound in the Rutherford area, there is also nature: The Meadowlands Environmental Center, in nearby Lyndhurst, offers groups a two-hour pontoon boat tour on the Hackensack River and some of its tributaries. The area is home to more than 260 species of birds.
