Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA)
SEPTA operates bus and rail service in Chester County, all based on a zone fare system. SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale line, one of SEPTA's 13 total passenger rail lines in the Philadelphia region, runs from Thorndale to Stafford in Chester County, eventually running to downtown Philadelphia. Rail service is limited west of Malvern on Saturday, and there is no Sunday rail service running west of Malvern. Fourteen of SEPTA's 100 total bus routes serve areas within or immediately adjacent to Chester County. In addition to its basic zone-based fare, SEPTA offers a number of multi-day travel ticket options.
Amtrak
Amtrak operates five stops in Chester County, including platforms in Exton, Downingtown, Coatesville, and Parkesburg, and a station in Paoli that operates Monday through Friday from 5 am to 6:45 pm, Saturday from 7 am to 3 pm and Sunday from 8:15 to 2:15 pm. All five stops are along Amtrak's Keystone line, which provides service between Harrisburg and Philadelphia and onto New York City via Amtrak's larger Northeast Corridor system. Amtrak's Paoli and Exton stops also provide access to the Pennsylvanian line, which offers daily service between New York City and Pittsburgh.
