Island Transit Island Transit operates the public transportation system in Galveston. Fixed route buses operate in a service area of 27 square miles, while its restored trolley system, known as Galveston Island Trolley, covers six miles. Island Transit's seven bus routes currently run daily from about 6 AM to 7:30 PM with extended hours on the Bayou Seawall Route. Fares are $0.50 for children and seniors and $1 for adults. Rental Cars Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty are all represented at George Bush Intercontinental Airport from a single central location at the Consolidated Car Rental Facility. The facility is located fewer than five minutes from the terminals and is accessible via the white and maroon airport rental car shuttles. The William P. Hobby Airport's rental car counters are located in the baggage claim area on the lower level of the terminal. Hobby Airport is serviced by Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty. Taxis Visitors to George Bush Intercontinental Airport can hail taxis through the ground transportation employees outside each terminal, while those at William P. Hobby Airport can find taxis on the lower level of the terminal outside baggage claim. Most taxi companies offer service to Galveston.
