Sabah Tourism Board Building
Исторический памятник
Located at 51 Gaya Street, this building is one of the three buildings still standing after the allied bombing at the end of World War II. Constructed in 1916 (and completed in 1918) to house the Printing Office, and later the Treasury, Audit Office, a bank and the Post Office, this more than a 100-year-old building is currently the office of Sabah Tourism Board (STB) and serves as a Tourist Information Centre.
A “0 KM” plaque was installed on the floors outside of the building to mark the place as the starting point to all places in the state, as the building once served as a post office.

Every Sunday morning, the whole stretch of Gaya Street is closed off to traffic to make way for the street fair. A must visit market while in KK, you will be fascinated by the various items and goods sold at this fair. From arts and crafts, batik sarongs, footwear, fruits and flowers, local snacks and cakes, antiques and souvenirs, to even pets and herbs, this is the best place to experience the culture and lifestyle of Sabahans. The street fair starts as early as 6.00am and ends at 1.00pm.

For an ideal introduction to the history of Sabah and its people, the Sabah State Museum is the place to visit. Learn more about the history of head hunters, Sabah during the Japanese occupation, traditional costumes, and artifacts including the many different ethnic groups of Sabah in this museum. The museum compound consists of several buildings including the Science & Education Centre, and a heritage village.

Tanjung Aru Beach

One of the best locations in KK to enjoy Sabah’s amazing sunset is at Tanjung Aru Beach, just 10 minutes away from the city center. Popular activities to do at the beach are kite flying, picnics, running, team building or just enjoying snacks sold at small food stalls while watching the sunset. The Tanjung Aru beach is also home to Shangri-la’s Tanjung Aru Resort, the Kinabalu Golf Club and the Kinabalu Yacht Club. The beautiful Sabah State Library as well as Perdana Park are nearby places for visits while in Tanjung Aru.

Sabah Art Gallery
The Sabah Art Gallery is the first ‘Green’ building in Sabah and Borneo with silver accreditation by the Green Building Index Accreditation Panel in 2012. With its unique ‘basket’ shaped building and decorative cultural motif panels of the indigenous people of Sabah, the art gallery has featured more than 3000 paintings, carvings and sculptures, showcasing new artists, new themes as well as new approaches in art.

Kinabalu Park is Malaysia's first World Heritage Site. Also the Centre of Plant Diversity for southeast Asia, the park boasts more than 5,000 vascular plant species and has no shortage of fauna as well, being home to some 90 lowland mammal species and many others.
The main attraction at the Park is none other than the majestic Mount Kinabalu, one of the highest mountains in South East Asia standing at 4095.2 meters.
Apart from traditional mountain climbing, visitors can also experience the Mountain Torq, the world’s highest and Asia’s first Via Ferrata or ‘iron road’ at 3,200m to 3,800m above sea level.

Poring Hot Springs

Kundasang War Memorial

A must visit while in Kundasang is the Kundasang War Memorial.
This was one of the first memorials to commemorate the brave Australian and British Prisoners of War who died in Sandakan and the infamous death marches to Ranau during World War II. Established in 1962, the memorial also remembers the people of North Borneo who risked their lives to help the POWs. Consist of four beautiful gardens – the Australian Garden, the English Garden, the Borneo Garden and the Contemplation Garden and Pool – to represent the different nationalities.

Tamu Besar Kota Belud
Tamu Besar is the biggest two-day open-air market organised annually in October at Siatai Village and is also known as the mother of all ‘Tamus’. During this event, vendors set up their stalls and sell from fresh produce, handicrafts, traditional items, and many more, ensuring only the very best of Tamu Kota Belud. The highlight of this event is the display of horse riding skills by the Bajaus, also known as the Cowboys of the East.

Kadamaian River
Enjoy a scenic mountain view while going on a 10km water rafting on the white river in Kadamaian, Kota Belud. The water rafting activity is suitable for beginners to experienced rafters and is rated at level I-II, whereby the water rafting is moderately adventurous yet still relaxing, suitable for families. In the evening, visitors can also raft to Kawa-Kawa where they can see the proboscis monkeys in their natural habitat.

Mantanani Island comprises of 3 islands; Big Mantanani Island, Small Mantanani Island, and Lingisan Island. An hour drive from Kota Kinabalu will bring you to the proclaimed Diver’s Paradise where you’ll be greeted with white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters. The underwater life in Mantanani Island is full of diverse marine life that is visible up to 40 metres. Exciting activities await such as scuba diving courses, kayaking, bird watching, sunset cruise, and night walks. Accommodation are also available on the island.

Tip Of Borneo is located in the northernmost point of Borneo, where the South China Sea meets the Sulu Sea. People from all over come here for leisure trips and it is also famous for its picturesque location, perfect for pre-wedding or any sort of photoshoots. At night time, Tip of Borneo transforms into a stargazing platform where stargazers and astrophotographers alike come together to watch the magical skies. The place is also known as one of the best spots for Astro tourism here in Sabah.
Kinabatangan River
Kinabatangan river sustains one of the world’s richest ecosystems. Other than being home to Borneo’s indigenous orang utan and proboscis monkey, the surrounding forest is also one of only two known places in the world where 10 species of primates are found. All the eight species of hornbill found in Borneo make this area their home.
A trip up the river at dawn or dusk is the best opportunity to see the wildlife. You might even sight an Asian elephant wandering through the trees.
Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre
A well-established rehabilitation centre for rescued orphaned orangutans located in Sepilok, approximately 40 minutes away from Sandakan Town, offers a natural home to the orangutans. Just like a human baby, the orphaned young orangutan (which would normally live with its mother for 5-6 years) needs to be taught how to cope in the wild, while its health is carefully monitored during rehabilitation.
Visitors to Sepilok are able to witness the feeding sessions at 10 am and 3 pm from a platform and viewing gallery reached via a boardwalk through the lush forest, and later learn even more in the information centre.

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre
Visit the world’s smallest Sun Bear at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center at Sepilok, Sandakan, adjacent to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. The centre opened in 2014 and aims to increase public awareness and release back into the forest individuals which can be rehabilitated or are still “wild”. To date, there are about 43 rescued ex-captive sun bears residing at the centre. The centre is equipped with key facilities including an observation platform, boardwalk and a visitor centre.
