Belfast Castle
Historical landmark
7 mi
This year Belfast Castle is celebrating a very important milestone anniversary. It is 90 years since the castle and its surrounding estate were gifted to the citizens of Belfast by the Right Honourable The Earl of Shaftesbury on 26 July 1934. The young earl, namely Anthony-Ashley Cooper, a dutiful and proud resident of the North Belfast area, served as Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1907, eventually becoming simply Lord Shaftesbury. Following the gifting of the castle and estate to the city in 1934, Belfast Castle became a visitor attraction for many. Over the years, the venue has played host to many receptions, dances and high teas, while the landscaped gardens were opened to picnickers and day-trippers to enjoy. In 2024, the castle will be commemorating its 90 years with an exciting programme of events. Stay tuned to our social media for more information. Belfast Castle is one of Belfast’s main visitor attractions with over 100,000 visitors per year. Set on the slopes of Cave Hill Country Park, the castle is a talisman for the city. It has a commanding a view from 120 metres above the heart of Belfast.

The trail starts at 'The Searcher' sculpture outside Holywood Arches Library on the Holywood Road and includes sites such as C.S. Lewis Square (containing 7 Narnia inspired sculptures), St. Mark's Church, where his grandfather was rector and where Lewis himself was baptised, and No. 47 Dundela Avenue where a Blue Plaque marks where the writer was born. The Crumlin Road Gaol dates back to 1845 and closed its doors as a working prison in 1996. After extensive renovations the gaol has re opened as a visitor attraction and conference centre. Today you can explore the prison as part of the “Crumlin Road Gaol Experience”, learning the history of the site from when women and children were held within its walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison. During this experience you will visit the underground tunnel that used to connect the gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, view all the wings from the circle and of course pay a visit to the condemned man’s cell before seeing the execution cell where the majority of the 17 men were executed.

Black Taxi Tour
Historical landmark
2 mi
Over the last two decades, one man has crossed both parts of the religious and political divide in Northern Ireland more than most. He has recounted the political history of this small country to tens of thousands of visitors to Northern Ireland. Say hello to Norman Reilly, Northern Irelands Longest established Black taxi Tour Guide. Not long after the peace agreement brought both sides of the divide into government, Norman decided to show visitors the real Northern Ireland. Norman and his team will take you on a breath-taking adventure of some of Northern Ireland’s best-kept secrets. You’ll get to see where the infamous Titanic was built and where 25-foot Peace Walls still divide Catholics and Protestant communities today. And you’ll explore where White Walkers once roamed, and House Lannister ruled with an iron fist. You’ll also see where mythological Irish creatures lived with a trip to the world- famous Giant’s Causeway. But don’t just take our word for it; Norman has taken famous faces like Ross Kemp, Danny Dyer and Stacey Dooley on adventures throughout Northern Ireland.

New York
Our company was founded in 2008 by Alana Hoye Barnaba. Originally from upstate New York, Alana moved to New York City and immediately began her love affair with its food, history, and culture. For years before creating her company, Alana tried every type of food the city had to offer and began specializing in the tastes of ethnic neighborhoods. Some of her first experiences with the city’s culinary adventures were fresh dumplings and homemade mozzarella — foods included on the signature tour today. Soon after, Alana started Ahoy New York Tours & Tasting and has been sharing her love for the passion, culture, and history of the city through food tours of New York neighborhoods. Ahoy New York Tours and Tasting’s goal with each tour is for customers to leave not only with the knowledge of the area and full of delicious food but also an experience to tell friends and family about long after the tour is complete
