Bongeunsa ist ein buddhistischer Tempel, der 794 während der Silla-Zeit gegründet wurde. (eines der Drei Königreiche Koreas). Der Tempel hat mehr als 1.000 Jahre und hat viele interessante historische und einschließlich Holzschnitzereien des Avatamsaka-Sutra (Blumengirlandensutra). Der Tempel ist auch ein sehr beliebter Tourist Reiseziel, das verschiedene Programme rund um das Traditionelle anbietet Koreanische buddhistische Kultur in einer Vielzahl von Sprachen. Goryeo Cheongdongrueunhyangno (Weihrauchbrenner aus Bronze) ist wurde als Schatz Koreas Nr. 321 bezeichnet. Es war einst ein Schatz von Bongeunsa und wird heute ausgestellt im Museum der Dongguk University. Die Kalligraphie auf dem Hängebrett des Panjeon (Hall) befindet sich das Werk von Kim Jeong- Hui, geschrieben drei Tage vor seinem Tod und es wird hoch gelobt für seine Reinheit und Einfachheit. Panjeon von Bongeunsa ist das einzige Gebäude, das 1939 einem großen Brand entkommen ist und mehr Platz bietet historische Bedeutung als jedes andere Gebäude in Bongeunsa. Es bewahrt auch wertvolle Holzschnitzereien buddhistischer Sutras auf.
