El Castillo de Santa Bárbara se encuentra en la cima del monte Benacantil, a 166 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Es una de las fortalezas medievales más grandes de España, desde la que se puede ver perfectamente la bahía de Alicante.
Cuenta con tres recintos a diferentes alturas y de tres épocas diferentes:
En el recinto más alto («La Torreta») se encuentran la Torre del Homenaje y los restos más antiguos de la fortaleza, que datan en su mayoría del siglo XIV.
En el recinto central se encuentran las habitaciones más importantes que se construyeron en el siglo XVI, tales como:
- La Sala Felipe II
- El Cuerpo de Guardias
- El Patio de Armas
- El Bastión de la Reina.
El recinto inferior data del siglo XVIII y alberga el llamado Revellín del Bon Repós.
