Flattop is Alaska’s most visited peak. Ascend the 1.5 - mile, 1,350 vertical foot trail to the rocky, football field-sized summit in about an hour and take in panoramic views from Denali (Mt. McKinley) to the Aleutian Islands. If you want vistas without the hike, walk the short path from the parking lot to the overlook. The more adventurous can hike from the parking lot 5 miles one-way to the scenic Williwaw Lakes or climb 5.5 miles to Wolverine Peak.

Earthquake Park

This 134-acre park is set in the woods where, in 1964, an entire neighborhood slid into the ocean during last century's most powerful earthquake. The earthquake was measured at a 9.2 on the Richter scale and lasted 4 minutes. Today, this tragic event is commemorated in Anchorage’s Earthquake Park, where you’ll find signs explaining the circumstances of the quake and its effect on the area.
You’ll also find a great place to relax: the large, wooded park sits on the coast along the Knik Arm, between Hood Creek and Point Woronzof. And this spot allows for some dramatic views; on the north side of the park you’ll find open views across the Knik Arm and Chugach Mountains, while other spots have good views of Anchorage. Be sure to look for moose, as they're sometimes found just off in the wooded areas of the park.
There’s no playground, but it’s a good spot to bring a picnic. It’s also a good spot for walking or biking (or, in winter, cross-country skiing), as the park provides access to the Costal Trail, which is worth exploring. For example, just half a mile up the trail is Lyn Ary Park, where you’ll find a play area with swings, as well as picnic tables and tennis courts.

Kincaid Park offers the easiest way to get deep in the woods right in town. This 1400-acre forest sits atop an old glacial moraine and offers one of America's top trail systems as well as Anchorage's largest moose population. Park at the Kincaid Outdoor Center or "chalet," (343-6397). If you want to test yourself, try the 6-mile Lekisch Loop; it's the hilliest competition-certified 10K in the country.
You'll also find miles and miles of singletrack biking trails for all abilities.

Located in Rutledge Hill – just a few blocks south of Historic Broadway, in the heart of Downtown Nashville – Husk, from The Neighborhood Dining Group, is reinterpreting the bounty of the surrounding area, exploring an ingredient-driven cuisine that begins in the rediscovery of heirloom products and redefines what it means to cook and eat in Nashville.
At Husk, there are some rules about what can go on the plate. If it doesn’t come from the South, it’s not coming through the door. The resulting cuisine is not about rediscovering Southern cooking, but rather exploring the reality of Southern food. Seed-saving, heirloom husbandry, in-house pickling and charcuterie programs by Executive Chef Ben Norton and his culinary team are the basis of Husk’s cuisine.
Husk Nashville, located at 37 Rutledge Street, was constructed into the side of a hill between 1879 and 1882 by Dr. John Bunyan Stephens. Its storied history includes serving as Mayor Richard Houston Dudley’s home, where he lived when elected in 1897. The area was settled by the Rutledge and Middleton families of Charleston who were descendants of two of the original South Carolina signers of the Declaration of Independence. Mayor Dudley added the Carriage House located on property in 1890–which will serve as a space to satisfy the restaurant’s culinary whims and host private/special events. The design of the Husk’s interior spaces enhances the building’s roots while demonstrating a sense of Southern style, modernity, energy, and cosmopolitan flair.
