De U.S. Naval Academy, een van de meest prestigieuze instellingen voor hoger onderwijs in het land. De afstudeerhoed is misschien wel de bekendste van alle tradities in de opdrachtweek. Terwijl je de 338 hectare grote campus verkent, bekend als „the Yard”, zul je ontdekken dat de Naval Academy wordt bepaald door dergelijke tradities — zozeer zelfs dat de hele campus is aangewezen als nationaal historisch monument. Met al dat terrein om af te leggen, is het maar goed dat de marine zo gastvrij is — zorg ervoor dat je een identiteitsbewijs met foto meeneemt naar Gate 1 om toegang te krijgen.
Het Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center, gelegen aan de voet van King George Street, is de plek om je bezoek aan de Academy te beginnen. Het beschikt over een informatiecentrum, een cadeauwinkel, een voorbeeldkamer voor midshipmen en de „Freedom 7”, Amerika's eerste bemande ruimtevaartuig, gevlogen door Alan Shepard, afgestudeerd aan de Naval Academy. Kom langs om de gratis film te bekijken. Het bezoekerscentrum biedt ook wandeltochten onder leiding van Academy-gidsen — de beste manier om een kijkje te nemen in de Yard van binnenuit.
