Stadspark

The Stadspark is the most famous park in Antwerp. It is a green oasis in the centre of the city. Eduard Keilig designed the Stadspark in 1867 in English landscape style. The park replaced the remains of an old fortification on the former city walls. Landscape architect Keilig turned it into a romantic park. The straight banks of the moat were given a wavy profile and the avenues were transformed into winding paths. Artificial rock formations and a suspension bridge gave the park allure. The plants were laid out in such a way that there were beautiful views in various places. The 14-hectare park is still a green and shady spot in the city centre. There is also a playground, a skate park for young people and a cosy brasserie.
