The Georgia World Congress Center opened in 1976 with a total of 750,000 square feet, 350,000 of which was exhibit space. Today, the facility encompasses 3.9 million square feet, including twelve exhibit halls that total 1.4 million square feet of prime exhibit space as well as 105 meeting rooms in varying shapes and sizes, encompassing 305,000 square feet. Additionally, the GWCC offers 2 grand ballrooms, 2 landscaped plazas and a 1,740-seat auditorium. This makes the GWCC one of the nation's top five largest convention centers in terms of prime exhibit space. The expansions of the GWCC have allowed the facility to accommodate growing trade shows and conventions. The Library consists of an archives and a museum and is approximately 70,000 square feet in size. It is not a library in the usual sense but is a research facility and a museum. The archives is a repository of approximately 27 million pages of Jimmy Carter's White House material, papers of administration associates, including documents, memoranda, correspondence, etc. There are also 1/2 million photographs, and hundreds of hours of film, audio and video tape. Just past noon on January 15, 1929, a son was born to the Reverend and Mrs. Martin Luther King in an upstairs bedroom of 501 Auburn Avenue, in Atlanta, Georgia. The couple named their first son after Rev. King, but he was simply called "M.L." by the family. Two blocks west of the home is Ebenezer Baptist Church, the pastorate of Martin's grandfather and father. It was to Ebenezer Baptist Church that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would return in 1960. As co-pastor with his father, "Daddy King", Dr. King, Jr. would preach about love, equality, and non-violence. The National Historic Site was established to preserve and interpret the places where Dr. King was born, worked, worshiped and is buried. Places to visit include The Visitors Center, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Freedom Hall, Fire Station No.6, Dr. Kings Birth Home and the restored Birth Home Block.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden was incorporated in 1976 to develop and maintain plant collections for the purpose of display, education, research, conservation and enjoyment. Today this nationally recognized animal habitat is home (for ten years from 1999 until 2009) to two giant pandas, Lun Lun and Yang Yang, on loan from the Chengdu Zoo in China. Primates run free in the Ford African Rain Forest and the people are contained to an intricate maze of pathways. It is quite different from the Grant Park Zoo that was named one of the ten worst zoos in the country in the early 1980's. The dramatic turnaround was witnessed with great interest not only by the citizens of Atlanta and North Georgia, but by the entire world. The turmoil brought international fame to Willie B., a silverback gorilla who came to represent both the zoo and its recovery. Atlanta's Cyclorama is the vivid retelling of the battle of Atlanta in an unusual art form whose popularity lasted less than 20 years. Commissioned by General John "Blackjack" Logan to further his political aspirations, the painting is now displayed in Grant Park, just west of the site of the battle. The Atlanta Cyclorama houses one of a few remaining examples in the world of an art form that was popular at the end of the 19th century, before moving pictures. A "cyclorama" was a show in a cylindrical room or building that featured a painting on the outer wall of the room and the patrons seated (or standing) in the center.
