Matsuri opened in Federal Hill in 1996 as the culmination of Bill Tien’s vision for Japanese cuisine in Baltimore. Prior to opening Matsuri, Tien had been involved as an owner or chef in multi-cultural restaurants for more than 30 years, preferring to specialize in Japanese cuisine. Over the last few years, Tien has emphasized catering as part of Matsuri’s offerings. Matsuri also offers the second floor of the restaurant as a private dining room that can be reserved for parties of up to 50.
