AN IDEAL MEETING SPOT. The Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa is the ideal place for companies that need to organize business meetings and also want to involve the participants in “extra” activities like team-building initiatives. The 11 Meeting Rooms at the resort can hold up to 200 people while the Salone Pascoli can hold up to 900 seated. It has already successfully held conventions, fashion shows, product launches, trade fairs, and exhibitions for national and international companies. The resort offers companies specialized indoor spaces and customizable outdoor spaces. Upon request, we can offer our expert press-office and reception services. Each location is equipped with the latest audio/video equipment. Also upon request, we can offer recording, simultaneous translation and videoconferencing services.

Historians say that Castello del Leone was the ancient name of this fortified village, still intact and austere, located in a strategic position to control the road that leads to San Pellegrino’s pass, a way of connecting with the north of Italy, beyond the Apennines. The fate of Castiglione, unlike most countries of Garfagnana, it has always been linked to Lucca since 1371, but it never being subdued, despite suffering few attacks, to the Este family. The walls we can see with its majestic towers of the 15th century surrounding, even today for 750 meters, the town centre. In further defence of the fortress, which rises elegant above the roofs of houses and is equipped with three additional towers and it is presently a private residence.

Just outside of Castelnuovo Mont'Alfonso’s Fortress rises in an elevated position, conceived at the turn of the 16th century, as the last defensive stronghold of the Duchy of Ferrara to guard the border with the neighbouring Lucca.
Built between 1579 and 1586 with great expenditure of resources and energy, it was designed by Carpi’s engineer Marc'Antonio Pasi and it is still qualified as the most important Garfagnana of Este’s architectural military emergency.

Historic capital of Garfagnana, it was already in the Byzantine era an important fortified town. 8th century documents show constant references to its walls. The city also had two other fortifications: S. Nicolao’s Castle and a Bishop’s Castle.
Castelnuovo was occupied in 1170 by the troops of Lucca, which destroyed Castel S. Nicolao and then, after the advent of Castruccio Castracani, the fortifications were renovated and was promoted the building of new walls.
Passed under the jurisdiction of Estensi in the 16th century, the town was designated as residence of the Commissioner General of Garfagnana, based in Bishop's Castle, Rocca Ariostesca nowadays, from the prestigious poet Ludovico Ariosto who stayed here in as governor Estense from 1523 to 1525.
