Please explain, if applicable, the carbon offsetting options you offer to corporations.
Similar to our viewpoint on REC’s, we do not believe purchasing offsets is sustainable. The majority of voluntary carbon offsets do not actively remove carbon from the atmosphere, and they create a pathway for companies to greenwash. We prefer to invest that money in our own operations to improve efficiency and advocate for large-scale change.

Has your hotel taken steps to reduce single-use plastics, such as removing plastic straws (except upon request for guests with disabilities), stirrers and cotton buds? If yes, please provide detail as to the steps you have taken to reduce single use plastics?
Single-use plastics are only used if there is no other feasible option available. Water-filling stations will be available on every floor of the hotel. Straws, water bottles, shower amenities, and to-go containers have all been replaced with compostable or reusable alternatives.
Does your hotel generate (onsite) or purchase (offsite) renewable energy (beyond your utility's standard offerings)? If yes, please describe your practices for generating or purchasing renewable energy.
The typical pathway to make clean energy purchases is through Renewable Energy Certificates. Our sustainability department has been at the forefront of debunking these as ineffective in reducing greenhouse gases. RECs also create pathways for companies to greenwash, by allowing them to emit the same amount of greenhouse gasses and simply buy their way out of it. We prefer to invest money into our own operations to reduce our energy consumption, and advocate for renewable energy to be used on a larger scale. We have a track record of both. The Limelight Boulder was built to be entirely electric at significant additional cost, because electrification is the key path to decarbonize the building environment.
