About us
Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) offers remarkable experiences across two unique venues; both iconic to Brisbane and winning architectural awards for their structural features. At the heart of each Gallery lies an open space perfect for events, with towering ceilings and walls, and floor space surrounded with ever-changing artworks. The original Queensland Art Gallery structure (QAG) houses the central and permanent indoor water feature ‘the Watermall’, with the surrounding floor space framed by international and Australian artworks. The newest building, Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), draws you in to the ‘Long Gallery’; exhibitions are revealed in the wings and this vast space is framed by a floor-to-ceiling window with direct views of the Brisbane city and it’s river. Specialising in high-profile occasions, Gala events and corporate groups, we showcase Brisbane at its best, offering local produce-driven menus and exceptional service in spectacular surrounds, for up to 200+ banquet style or a 1000+ cocktail. This summer GOMA will host the 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemprary Art, a celebration of Australian, Asian and Pacific art and an incredible backdrop to your next event.

The Queensland Art Gallery is part of the Queensland Cultural Centre precinct, which also comprises the State Library of Queensland, the Queensland Performing Arts Complex, the Queensland Museum, and the Queensland Theatre Company. This unique cultural precinct is adjacent to the South Bank Parklands and the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Queensland National Art Gallery was opened by the Queensland Governor, Sir Henry Wylie Norman, on 29 March 1895. The establishment of a state gallery followed successful advocacy by artists Isaac Walter Jenner and R. Godfrey Rivers. Rivers had persuaded the Mayor of Brisbane, Alderman Robert Fraser, to provide a room in the now-demolished old Town Hall building in Queen Street.
