Glenbow is located on Treaty 7 territory, and respects the history, languages, traditions and cultures of the nations on whose traditional land we reside: the Blackfoot Confederacy, which includes Siksika, Piikani and Kainaiwa; the Tsuut'ina, the Stoney Nakoda First Nations, including the Chiniki, Wesley and Bearspaw bands, and the Métis Nation Region III. Their contributions to the museum and their continued support are integral to our success in educating our visitors and sharing the rich heritage of this land. We further acknowledge the vital connections we have to other indigenous people (including other First Nations, Inuit and Métis), whose visual and intangible culture is represented in our collections and exhibitions.

Scotiabank Saddledome is a multi-use indoor arena in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Located in Stampede Park in the southeast end of downtown Calgary, the Saddledome was built in 1983 to replace the Stampede Corral as the home of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, and to host ice hockey and figure skating at the 1988 Winter Olympics. The facility also hosts concerts, conferences and other sporting championships, and events for the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. It underwent a major renovation in 1994–95 and sold its naming rights, during which its original name of Olympic Saddledome was changed to Canadian Airlines Saddledome. The facility was given the name Pengrowth Saddledome in 2000, after Pengrowth Management Ltd. signed a ten-year agreement. It adopted its current name in October 2010 as Scotiabank signed on as title sponsor. The Saddledome is owned by the City of Calgary, who leases it to the Saddledome Foundation, a non-profit organization, to oversee its operation. Since 1996, it has been managed by the Flames. The Saddledome was damaged during the 2013 Alberta floods but was repaired and reopened in time for the 2013–14 NHL season. The arena's roof is shaped like a saddle, thus earning the name "Saddledome".

It’s never been easier to Find Yourself Downtown. The CORE is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Calgary with easy access to the C-train, bus, and just steps away from your downtown hotel and conference centre. Situated along the C-Train line, you can either get off at the 3rd Street West Station (if you are coming from the west end of the city) or the 4th Street West Station (if you are coming from the south or east end of the city). Both stops will land you right in front of the CORE. If you are walking from your hotel, we recommend taking the beautiful Stephen Avenue pedestrian walkway on 8th Avenue. In the summertime, you’ll be able to enjoy the sounds of buskers and the bustling market-style kiosks lining the sides of the road before arriving at the CORE. For those of you travelling by car, parking is free at the CORE on weekdays after 3 pm, and all day on weekends, for the first 3 hours. A $2.00 flat rate applies thereafter. You can also valet park your car by pulling up to the valet booth on 3rd Street S.W. heading south, between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue S.W. The valet service is always free at the CORE. For more parking information, please click HERE. Get the full downtown and CORE experience by visiting our Guest Services booth on level 2. There you will find maps, magazines, city guides, and if you’re lucky, some free CORE swag. Also, be sure to visit the spectacular Devonian Gardens. This urban oasis on the 4th level of the CORE offers one hectare of botanical gardens including over 500 trees, 50 varieties of plants, a 900 sq. ft. living wall, and an always busy children’s playground filled with plenty of play structures for your little ones to climb and explore.

Like many Calgary success stories, ours has a spirited beginning, an unprecedented growth spurt and a promising future. Even before Alberta became a province in September 1905, the citizens of a very young Calgary were determined to host a post-secondary institution as part of building a great city. In 1906, the Alberta Normal School (which would later become our own Werklund School of Education) began operations and provided a steady stream of educators for a new province eager to grow and advance quickly. When the University of Alberta was founded in 1908 in Strathcona (now part of Edmonton), Calgarians were disappointed with the "branch plant" concept that ensued and lobbied for decades for an independent institution of their own. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and volunteers joined together to support the cause, with great passion and commitment. Their dedication was finally rewarded on April 29, 1966 when the University of Calgary was granted autonomy. From there, growth was fast and furious, as a new campus took shape and innovative educators came to Calgary from around the world. In 2016-17, the University of Calgary marked its 50th Anniversary as an autonomous institution.
