Tulum is the site of a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city serving as a major port for Cobá. The ruins are located on 12-meter (39 ft) cliffs, along the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. One of the best-preserved coastal Maya sites, Tulum is the most popular site and most visited in México.

A New Wonder of the World Chichen Itza is considered the most important archaeological zone of the Mayan World in the region. Located 149 miles from Cancun towards Merida, it extends approximately 2.5 miles from north to south, and arose at the end of the Classic period in the year 900 AD until the start of the Postclassic in 1200 AD. Rediscovered in 1842, it is not until the twentieth century that its restoration begins along with its resurgence as one of the most important and valuable sites of Mayan culture and basically humanity. Chichen Itza, which translates to "at the edge of the well of the Itzaes" derives its name from its sacred, large cenote (sinkhole).

El Rey is estimated to have been built around 300 A.D., and is the largest archaeological site on Cancun Island. When you there by yourself you can endlessly wonder around, take lots of photos of lazy iguanas sunbathing on rocks (there are tons of them). Site by itself is very nice as well, most of the ruins have signs that explain their history
