L'histoire du Musée national du Bangladesh est mouvementée et glorieuse, liée, dans l'ordre chronologique, à l'histoire des Indiens britanniques, à la naissance et à la dissolution du Pakistan et à l'émergence du Bangladesh. Au tournant du XXe siècle, lord Curzon, vice-roi des Indes, par sa politique de réajustement provincial, donna le terrain politique à l'établissement d'un musée à Dhaka. Il partit le Bengale le 16 octobre 1905. La ville historique de Dacca devient la capitale de la nouvelle province du Bengale oriental et de l'Assam. Par conséquent, Dhaka a connu une croissance physique énorme avec un développement complet.

L'Assemblée constituante du Bangladesh et le premier Parlement ont tenu leurs séances dans le bâtiment qui abrite aujourd'hui le Cabinet du Premier ministre et qui est souvent appelé l'ancien Shangshad Bhaban (ancien Parlement). La deuxième législature a également tenu la plupart de ses séances dans cet édifice, la dernière séance ayant eu lieu le 10 juillet 1981. C'est au cours de la deuxième législature que l'actuel édifice du Parlement, ou Shangshad Bhaban, situé à Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, est devenu fonctionnel. Sa huitième session, et soit dit en passant la dernière session, a commencé le 15 février 1982 dans le nouvel édifice.

Ahsan Manzil (Ahsan Monjil) était le palais résidentiel officiel et le siège du Nawab de Dhaka. Le bâtiment est situé à Kumartoli, le long des rives de la rivière Buriganga, à Dhaka, au Bangladesh. La construction a commencé en 1859 et s'est achevée en 1872. Il a été construit dans l'architecture néo-sarrasine indo-saracénique. Il a été désigné musée national.
